O honours women with courage
23 July 2012
What do Zahara, Meryl Streep and Ferial Haffajee have in common? They’re part of the prestigious line-up of 25 women featured in this month’s O, The Oprah Magazine SA. An annual listing of the world’s most groundbreaking females, the O Power List gives readers much to celebrate over Women’s Month. And to celebrate the magazine’s 10th birthday year, the 2012 O Power List also features an esteemed checklist of ten outstanding Women of the Decade.
Given the calibre of the candidates, O felt it fitting that equally accomplished contributors be enlisted to pay tribute to them. Notable scribes include radio DJ Anele Mdoda, award-winning journalist Paula Slier, ballerina Kitty Phetla and singer Tamara Dey. From selecting this once-off editorial team to collaborating on which women to profile, editor Samantha Page says this month’s issue is imbued with passion and pride. “It was a joy to put this issue together. Interacting with some, and reading the stories of others, immediately made all of us who worked on the issue want to be better and do better – and the experience certainly made us feel better.”
To round off the festivities of August, O magazine will host a Power Lunch, in partnership with Cuticura. As well as a decadent meal and interactive brand experiences, guests will also hear just how three of the countries most prominent women have wielded power in their lives. The distinguished speakers at the O Power Lunch are chairman of Associated Magazines and O’s editor-in-chief, Jane Raphaely, the charismatic “Giggling Gourmet,” Jenny Morris and musician and philanthropist Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
